Target set for summer vegetable cultivation on 2,903 hectares of land in Narail

Narail, 3 March 2025 (BSS): The agriculture department has set a target for cultivating summer vegetables on 2,903 hectares of land across three upazilas in the district.

According to Nipu Majumder, Assistant Sub-Assistant Director of the District Agricultural Extension Department, the cultivation will begin in mid-March. Farmers are preparing to grow various vegetables including bitter gourd, bottle gourd, pumpkin, brinjal, spinach, cucumber, and okra.

The agriculture department has targeted 58,669 metric tonnes of summer vegetables for the district, with 1,378 hectares in the district’s main upazila, 755 hectares in Lohagara, and 770 hectares in Kalaiya.

Md. Jasim Uddin, Deputy Director of the Narail District Agricultural Extension Department, stated that efforts are underway to encourage farmers to grow vegetables on available land. Agriculture officials are advising farmers on increasing yields from smaller areas, and they expect the cultivation target to be exceeded. He assured that there would be no shortage of quality seeds, irrigation, fertilisers, or pesticides.
